Carrington's professional papers, particularly his legal case files, comprise the bulk of the collection. Among the cases and clients represented were the American Capitol Envelope Company, American Loan Company, American Paper Company, Barker Bakeries, Barnard Moore Holding Corporation, and the Beneficial Loan Society. Also the Chesapeake Amusement Company, Collegiate School for Girls, Credit Union National Extension Bureau, Benjamin T. Crump Company, E.M. Crutchfield of the Equitable Life Assorance Society, Davenport Insurance Company, Eastern Brick Company, Hampton-Sydney Alumni Association, Hampton Institute, Sarah Haviland, Inter-Racial Committee, and the Keystone Service Corporation. Also the Kiwanis Club of Richmond, Marshall Realty Corporation, Mayo Island Park, Mechanics and Merchants Bank, Motion Picture Theatre Owners, National Equitable Investment Company, New Amsterdam Casualty Company, Old Dutch Market, J.C. Phaup, Planters National Bank, Ready Brick Company, Richmond Chamber of Commerce, Richmond National Theatre Company, Richmond-New York Steamship Company, and the Southern Briquette Coal Company. Also the Southern Manufacturing Company, William Carrington Stettinius, Mary Dallas Street, Sunnyside Quarry, The Theatres, Union Bank & Federal Trust, United States Leather Company, Richmond Urban League for Social Service Among Negroes, University of Virginia, Virginia Coal Briquetteing Company, Virginia Passenger & Power Company, Virginia State Bar Association, Virginia Union University, Robert L. Wallerstein, Wells family, Frank D. Williams, Wilmer & VIncent Corporation, Woodstock Iron & Steel Corporation, and the Young Men's Christian Association. Most of these files are routine incorporation, estate, claims collections, bankruptcy and divorce cases. Topics of interest in the papers include arrangements for an address by Lord Robert Cecil; deportation of illegal Chinese immigrants; securing a charter for a credit union at Hampton Institute; a Richmond segregation ordinance to prohibit African Americans from buying property on majority white blocks; John G. Pollard's gubernatorial campaign; and the admission of William Carrington Stettinius, son of Edward R. Stettinius, Sr., to the University of Virginia. Personal papers of Carrington include several speeches and addresses : "Richmond in By-Gone Days"; "O'Henry - His Life and Works"; "Principles of Federalism as Exemplified in America"; "Function of Public Education"; and "The Segregation Ordinance Before the Richmond City Council." Plats and maps in the collection pertain to Carrington's cases. Most are for property in Richmond or Chesterfield County, Va. Jackson Davis is a correspondent in the Inter-Racial Committee papers.

Jackson Davis, an educator and school administrator in Virginia, became the first state agent for rural schools for Blacks in Virginia (1909-1915). He served as general field agent for the General Education Board (1915-1933), and its assistant director (1929-1933), associate director (1933-1946), and director (1946-1947).
